WHEN INSTALLING ARTIFICIAL GRASS WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON QUALITY BUT WHAT IS THE RIGHT PROCESS OF INSTALLATION?

IS MY GARDEN SUITABLE FOR ARTIFICIAL GRASS?

In most cases the answer is yes? Artificial grass can be installed in place of a real lawn and on top of existing hard surfaces such as paving, tarmac and decking. If you require artificial grass on top of an existing hard standing the simplest way is to lay the grass on top of our bounce pad's. Our bounce pad's are effectively cushioned but hard wearing underlay which still allow water to drain through. They are available in both 10mm and 15mm and 20mm thickness which means that the Critical Fall Height depth is easily achievable by combining both sizes. The process for a regular install is detailed below.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS?

  • A beautiful green lawn all year round - with minimum maintenance.

  • A lawn that can withstand intensive use without developing bald patches or brown spots.

  • No more mowing! No more watering! No more reseeding! No more muddy feet entering the house!

  • Artificial grass will grow where real grass won't, whether in the shade, under a roof, or even on a roof terrace.

  • Our grass feels soft to touch and has a guaranteed long life thanks to our unique warranty.

HOW MUCH WILL MY NEW LAWN COST?

As you can imagine every single project is different, there are many variables which will affect the cost. Ease of access. location, size of the area and the grade of artificial grass chosen for example.

Supreme Artificial Grass will be more than happy to provide a free,no obligation quotation following a site visit.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING AN ARTIFICIAL LAWN?

The actual installation is fairly straight forward and in truth almost anyone will be capable of the task!

Supreme Artificial Grass have extensive experience installing artificial grass, below is a quick run through the steps involved.

  • All of the existing turf and vegetable matter has to be removed to a depth of approximately 60 - 70mm. This can be done using just a spade but we prefer to use a petrol turf cutter of a Micro digger (depending on size of the area) to speed up the process. Once removed this waste has to the be disposed of, which is where a skip comes in or a grab wagon if over 8 tonnes!

  • Once clear, a sub-base has to be laid to a depth of approximately 50mm in order to level the area. We predominantly use Type 1 MOT which is a mixture of crushed stone in varying sizes which compacts to make a solid base.

  • On top of the sub-base we lay approximately 15mm of granite dust, again this is compacted using a petrol compactor plate to ensure the site is as level as possible.

  • The next step is to lay a heavy duty Geotextile weed membrane which prevents any existing vegetable matter from penetrating the sub-base.

  • Once the Geotextile has been secured the grass is simply rolled out into position, trimmed to the perimeter of the garden and pinned down using galvanised nails.

  • The final step is to lift the fibres of the newly laid grass using a mechanical brush and clear away the remaining debris!

The above steps are just the basics for a simple small lawn. A large lawn for example would require numerous separate rolls of grass joining together using a specific method. Supreme Artificial Grass have a few tricks up our sleeve to obtain a professional finish which of course we are willing to share with our customers.

GRANITE DUST OR SHARP SAND?

A good question! Here at Supreme Artificial Grass we only use Granite Dust for a laying course, for a few very good reasons!

  • Our grass allows approximately 60 litres of water per sq/m to drain through perforations in the latex backing every hour. This amount of water would simply wash away sharp sand resulting in a lumpy and uneven finish to your new lawn.

  • After investing in a new artificial lawn you want to be able to use it. If sand is used as a laying course you will discover that it moves around underfoot due to not compacting as firmly as Granite dust.

  • Sharp sand also encourages ants as it provides the ideal habitat for them to burrow and live in.

  • The main reason why some installers use sharp sand is purely down to cost. Granite dust costs approximately 30% more than sharp sand. Supreme Artificial Grass always use granite dust and the cost is included within your installation quotation.

IS ARTIFICIAL GRASS SUITABLE FOR PETS?

Absolutely! Your pets will treat artificial grass just like regular grass, apart from being able to dig it up. Any excrement is easily removed or washed away and a couple of times per year you can use a bespoke disinfectant to remove pathogens and smells. All of our grass conforms to strict European standards (EN71-3)

HOW LONG WILL MY ARTIFICIAL GRASS LAST?

Our grass is manufactured by AAGI using the latest technology. We are that confident in our product that we provide an 10 year warranty on both the grass and our installation service. In reality we expect the grass to last much longer providing that a simple low maintenance program isfollowed.

DOES ARTIFICIAL GRASS FADE?

All grass supplied by Supreme Artificial Grass is designed to be UV stable. This means that our grass will not fade over time, even in direct sunlight. The only difference you may notice over time is that the grass fibres will dull slightly and become less shiny. This is absolutely normal and actually improves the aesthetics as the grass will look less shiny and more natural .
